Frequently Asked Questions

I’m thinking about membership, what do I do? Attend the Divine Service and speak to the pastor who will either arrange for your transfer (if coming from a different Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod congregation) or else a reception of your membership, which may require further instruction depending on the circumstances.

Can I take Communion (as a non-member)? Members in good standing of another Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod Congregation or church body in fellowship with the LCMS may receive the Sacrament at Zion after speaking with the pastor.

How do I announce for Communion as a visiting guest from another LCMS congregation? Please speak to an elder before the service begins, who may direct you to speak with the pastor.

What is the LCMS-U program at Ohio State? It is Zion’s bible-based campus ministry program led by our Vicar. The student organization meets weekly on campus for Bible Study, often get together for social events, and offer rides to church for students who do not have other transportation.

How do I learn more about the Ohio Winkel for Laity (OWL) Convocation? There’s a link on our website that will have information updated as we receive it. The Convocation is almost always the second Saturday in August, and is a Bible-based seminar with about 12 pastors presenting various topics of interest. Information will begin showing up on our website in early June.

Can I use your church for a wedding? Either the bride or groom to be (preferably both!) must be a member of Zion in good standing in order to have a wedding at our Church. We do not believe that the Church is a venue, but rather the place where God gives His gifts to His people!
